Pearl Foster co-founded the non-profit organization, ARC, Inc. in 1974 and is now an honorary board member. ARC, Inc., originally Cold Spring Farm, is a landtrust in the Columbia Gorge, dedicated to the practice and teaching of organic farming, homestead arts, sustainable resources and pay-it-forward economic systems. Pearl and co-founder Hank Patton, helped to set foundation standards for organic certification in co-operation with Oregon Tilth (OTCO) while living on Cold Spring Farm. Hank Patton, now founder and Chairman of World Steward is in collaboration with Amory Lovins, inventor of the hydrogen car and founder of the Eden Foundation.
After a decade in the Columbia Gorge, Pearl created the Rose Candle Company and the Lighthouse Home School for the community in Northwest Montana, teaching creative arts and cottage industries in harmony with nature. Pearl has helped organize numerous business start-ups, including her own private consulting business, serving independent, self-sustaining people and enterprises that integrate home and family life with sustainable economic security that supports future generations.
